The New Bull Run Restaurant & Concert Series Showcases John Oates, Jonathan Edwards, Suzy Bogguss, Bearfoot, Savoy Brown, Rod MacDonald and James Montgomery
These nationally known artists all have new 2011 CDs
SHIRLEY, MA, October 06, 2011 /Entertainment PR News/ -- It's no secret that the historic Bull Run Restaurant in the charming country town of Shirley, Massachusetts specializes in presenting cutting edge, nationally and internationally renowned performers. The thrill of blues, folk music, country, bluegrass, jazz and R&B fill the big Sawtelle Room at the venue every week. The recently reinvigorated 300-seat club is now the place to check out what's new, whatÕs hot--what's happening on the music scene--and it's a special showcase for performers who have just released new CDs.
This year, the fall lineup features seven artists with new CD product: John Oates released his latest CD, Mississippi Mile April 12, 2011--he appears at Bull Run October 6; Jonathan Edwards presents his show Saturday, October 15 with his new CD My Love Will Keep [release date 06.14.11] and Suzy Bogguss is on tap Saturday, November 5 with a collection of folk songs and companion Songbook, American Folk Songbook [release date 08.02.11].
Then on Thursday, November 10, Bearfoot will showcase American Story [release date 09.27.11]and Savoy Brown with Kim Simmonds show up in the big Sawtelle Room on Friday, December 16 with their Voodoo Moon release, Brown's 50th release to date [released 09.2011]! Rod MacDonald joins the fanfare on Friday, December 16 in the Ballroom with his new release, Big Brass Bed [07.2011] and just announced this week, James Montgomery will rock the house on Saturday, December 17, spotlighting his newest CD.
Behind every great musician, there is a pinnacle moment of inspiration that has a resounding influence on the musician they are today. Long before critically acclaimed musician John Oates became one-half of the award-winning duo Daryl Hall & John Oates, he was reveling in the American classics of artists such as Chuck Berry and Mississippi John Hurt. Mississippi Mile, his latest CD, emanates Oates musical autobiography; stringing together the heavy influences of classic hits with his distinct Americana Blues sound and musical talents. Oates performs Thursday, October 6; tickets are $35.00 in advance, $40.00 day of show including at the door.
"This album is about honoring the tradition of the song itself," Oates explains. "I wanted to go back to the songs that really shaped me when I was growing up. I wouldn't be the musician that I am today without these songs. It's a stripped-down effort to showcase what the song was before it ever made it on the record and became a hit. The music you hear on Mississippi Mile is as close to a live album as it gets."
Jonathan Edwards Trio performs Saturday October 15; Tickets are $30.00 in advance; $35.00 day of show including at the door. Appleseed Recordings recently announced the signing of one of contemporary folk music's most beloved performers, Jonathan Edwards, and the June 14, 2011 release of My Love Will Keep, the singer/songwriter's first new studio album in 14 years. The Appleseed Recordings label is distributed in North America by eOne Distribution. This year also marks the 40th Anniversary of the 1971 release of his hit single, Sunshine, the first gold record for then-fledgling Capricorn Records. Rocker Jonathan Edwards has one of the most beautiful and memorable voices in the business and is still a vibrant, energetic performer. This is one veteran performer who is neither grizzled nor nostalgic. He is now working with Tom Snow on piano and Charlie Rose on bass, banjo and pedal steel. Together, they form the Jonathan Edwards Trio.
Singer Suzy Bogguss heads to The NEW Bull Run for a show in The Sawtelle Room at Bull Run on Saturday, November 5 at 8:00 P.M. Tickets are $32.00 in advance and $36.00 day of show. Suzy Bogguss had a revelation on stage with Garrison Keillor in 2008. Everyone loves to sing along on Red River Valley except the children who somehow don't know the song. Folk songs are the scrapbook of the American experience, but as music education fades from our public schools, she worried; these beautiful melodies are in danger of being overlooked. She resolved to record these timeless songs in an updated but reverent way so that everyone can sing along on Red River Valley. The platinum selling songstress already has a full bookshelf of Grammy¨ and CMA awards and now with the release of American Folk Songbook she can put her own book up there too. The CD and companion Songbook were released on July 18, 2011 at all Cracker Barrel Country Stores followed by a wide release to other fine retail and digital outlets on August 2, 2011.
Country comes to Shirley when Bearfoot arrives on Thursday, November 10. It's a commonplace statement that crises create opportunities, but the principle was thoroughly and successfully tested by Alaska-by-way-of-Nashville's Bearfoot last year, when original members Angela Oudean and Jason Norris found themselves presiding over a prolonged period of shifting personnel. Yet the cliche proved true in the end when the pair recruited Todd Grebe, another Alaska-to-Nashville transplant, Nora Jane Struthers, a rising young singer/songwriter and one of her bandmates, P. J. George, to create a renewed ensemble full of energy and creativity. And now, with the release of American Story (available Sept 27), the group's latest effort for Compass Records, it's plain to see that the crisis was little more than a blessing in disguise.
Legendary blues/rockers Savoy Brown with Kim Simmonds perform Friday, December 16 showcasing their hot new Voodoo Moon release, Brown's 50th release to date. Begun at White Cottage Studio in 2010, finished and mastered earlier this year at SubCat studio near Simmonds adopted hometown of Oswego, New York, Voodoo Moon reflects a lifetime of living and loving the blues. His new, local lineup of talent - Joe Whiting (vocals/sax), Pat DeSalvo (bass) and Garnet Grimm (drums) - rehearse faithfully; and it shows. Fans and promoters report this is one of, if not the best live concerts and new music in the ever-evolving lineup of Savoy Brown.
Rod MacDonald performs on Friday, December 16. Tickets are $14.00 in advance; $18.00 day of show including at the door. Rod MacDonald was a "big part of the 1980s folk revival in Greenwich Village clubs," performing at the Speakeasy, The Bottom Line, Folk City and the Songwriter's Exchange at the Cornelia Street Cafe for many years. He co-founded the Greenwich Village Folk Festival and is perhaps best known for his songs ÒAmerican Jerusalem, "A Sailor's Prayer, "Coming of the Snow "Every Living Thing, and My Neighbors In Delray,a description of the 9/11 hijackers' last days in Delray Beach, Florida, where MacDonald has lived since 1995. MacDonald released Big Brass Bed in July of this year. The CD started in the winter of 2002 at the Bamboo Room in Lake Worth. The cut, "A Few Dylan songs," was released in 2003. The new CD features Rod MacDonald, guitar/vocals/harmonica, Bill Meredith, drums/vocals, John Smotherman, lead guitar/vocal and Randy Ward, bass/vocals.
When blues legend James Montgomery plays the harmonica, he Òbrings it on home. Whether it's recording with Kid Rock, sitting in with Gregg Allman, or fronting his hot band of thirty years, Montgomery plays with authority. While growing up in Detroit he learned first-hand from the masters -- James Cotton, John Lee Hooker and Jr. Wells -- at the legendary "Chessmate." Over the years, he's carried on in the tradition and continues to be a vital presence in blues as one of the most dynamic performers on the scene. Montgomery tells Bull Run that he will have his new CD titled From Detroit to the Delta this December!
